Guitar Lessons with Vic

Hello!

I’m Vic aka Vicki Workman, a lifelong musician and educator. With decades of experience, I’ve taught all ages, in various settings, from in-person to online - you name it, I’ve probably done it!

My background

For over 10 years, I owned what became the Own A Chord guitar school. At its peak, I was supporting up to 150 weekly students, as well as training and managing a small team of teachers. We put on regular jam sessions and performance events to encourage our students to collaborate, connect and experience the joy of performing on stage. Largely as a result of these activities, I saw many of our students make incredible progress. 

Helping people gain the skills and confidence to perform the music they love on stage is the most rewarding thing I have ever done.

The Course

 After a break from teaching, in which I reconnected with my own love for music, I’ve decided to go back to basics. I’ll be teaching a select cohort of private students to go “from beginner to band” within only a few short months, distilling everything I’ve learnt into a new course. Choose your favourite songs, master essential techniques and shine on stage!  

The full course consists of 10 x 60 minute private lessons, but you can book a block of five or even pay as you go, whatever you prefer.

Course Overview

Who It's For 

Whether you’re a beginner, returning player, or curious enthusiast, all you need is a love for music. Wherever you’re at, I can meet you there! 

Where It’s At 

Your lessons can take place either in-person in Hove or online via Google Meet, whichever suits you best. The performance will take place at a local venue in Brighton or Hove (tbc) 

The Journey 

You’ll be embarking on much more than just a series of guitar lessons. Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect along the way: 

  • Personalised Learning - from day one, your lessons will be tailored to your goals, learning pace and musical preferences 
  • Skill Building - You’ll build a strong foundation in essential techniques like chords, strumming and picking 
  • Song Mastery - You’ll choose from an array of beginner-friendly songs from various genres and I’ll guide you towards mastering them  
  • Performance Preparation - As you gain proficiency, we’ll shift our focus to preparing you for your upcoming performance  
  • Collaborative Community - You’ll get the opportunity to jam and collaborate with fellow students and musicians 
  • The Big Stage - showcase your progress with a live performance at a local music venue 
  • Beyond The Course - You’ll carry the skills, confidence and connections you’ve gained into your future musical endeavours. This could be the start of something big!

Limited availability

Having taught a large number of students in groups for many years, I realised I missed the opportunity to give the truly personalised guidance I had given my private students. I now want to get back to teaching on a one-to-one basis. This is so that I can be fully present as I get each of my students “gig ready”.

For this reason, I only have a limited number of lesson slots available. 

My Teaching Style

I’m a friendly, patient and supportive teacher. 

I’ve taught hundreds of students and have been teaching long enough to know that we all have our own learning styles and our own set of baggage and limitations!   While I’m not qualified to be your therapist, I do understand that learning any new skill will take you out of your comfort zone and will probably cause you some discomfort and unease. 

I will make your lessons as enjoyable as I can, giving you small wins when possible, and gently encouraging you when things get tough.

I offer a free 30 minute consultation session on Google Meet before any lessons can begin.

This is to establish a personal connection so that I can understand your musical background, interests and goals.  I’ll then provide a comprehensive overview of the learning options available to you and the exciting live performance opportunity you’ll get.

Finally, you’ll have a chance to ask questions, share concerns, and gain clarity on anything you’d like to know about the course structure, schedule and more.
